A series of photographs sent by Livio Parchitelli, a representative of the "Friends in Defense of Baja Sardinia" Committee, documents a situation of degradation linked to the abandonment of garbage, already reported in the past by the same committee, affecting several areas in the municipality of Arzachena.
"We cleaned everything up on Saturday morning, and by Saturday evening it was full of garbage and bulky items again," responds Environment Councilor Michele Occhioni. He adds: "We can't keep it clean because uncivilized people dump it right afterward. By the time we clean it up, it's back to the way it was before, if not worse."
"We are mapping the area with reports of critical issues sent in by citizens and residents; we will ask the Municipality to take concrete action," Parchitelli writes. "We have developed an operational program to share with the Municipality, and Councilor Michele Occhioni has verbally confirmed his availability for a meeting." According to the Committee, "an increase in the number of visits by the manager, with ongoing inspections and sanctions for those who deface the area," is what is needed. He promises: "We will be consistent in denouncing this outrage."
Councilor Occhioni also spoke of increased collections, increased surveillance, and sanctions, confirming a meeting with the Committee before Easter. In any case, he concluded, "With the implementation of the new tender specifications, we will transition to door-to-door collection, which I hope will begin before the summer, eliminating drop-off points." This should lead to an improvement in the situation.
