Arbus, the ATM scam: a 31-year-old duped
Man thought he was receiving money for an ATM sale, then realized the money hadn't arrived in his account, it had gone outAnother victim of the so-called ATM scam. This time, a 31-year-old from Arbus fell into the trap.
The man had put a bumper up for sale on a well-known classifieds site and had agreed with a 49-year-old and a 40-year-old man, both from Rome, for payment . Told to go to a Poste Italiane ATM to receive payment, in reality the victim made nine top-ups on three different PostePay cards for a total amount of €2,250, to the benefit of the two scammers.
Only when he realized that he had not received the money but had lost it did he contact the Carabinieri who, in collaboration with the Post Office, managed to identify the criminals, reported for aggravated fraud.
