A feast at the table, with dishes created by exceptional chefs, without forgetting the importance of prevention and research, the only weapons today to defeat cancer.
At the "Era Ora" restaurant in Arborea, owner Marcella Frau organized a highly successful charity event for the third time. Thanks to the huge turnout, €5,000 was raised yesterday, which was already donated this morning to the European Institute of Oncology in Milan.
The proceeds were donated to the Women's Cancer Center, a single facility that brings together the expertise and services needed to provide immediate and comprehensive care to every woman who chooses IEO for women's cancer prevention, early diagnosis, treatment, or follow-up. Marcella Frau didn't choose IEO by chance. For three years, she has been promoting the initiative to support the hospital that once treated her. Dr. Viviana Galimberti, the discoverer of the so-called "sentinel lymph node" and director of the IEO's breast cancer division, was also present at the event.
The doctor thanked everyone in attendance, noting that research continues thanks to these charitable initiatives, which raise funds. Also present was Dr. Daniele Farci, head of the oncology department at the Piccola Casa di Cura in Decimomannu, where cook Marcella Frau performed the first treatments.
During lunch, Farci also explained the importance of food and which foods have anti-tumor properties .
Chefs Tiziano Vacca, Vincenzo Sorvillo, Simona Balia, Marzia Arruffo, and Giuseppe Messino took to the stove. Each dish was explained in detail before being served, to much applause. The waiters also worked for free.
Among them were several friends of the owner, including cancer patients. To support the fight against cancer in women, the products used to prepare the menu were donated by about twenty local companies. A special gift, not to be taken for granted. Marcella Frau: "It was a very emotional day, a celebration that involved everyone, both those seated at the tables and those who worked so lovingly in the kitchen. These events are meant to do good."
