Giancarlo Fonsatti , the 56-year-old who in August 2021 stabbed his uncle Paolo , a former non-commissioned officer of the Army, in Arborea , was sentenced to 15 years and 10 months.

The verdict came late this morning. The trial, celebrated with an abbreviated procedure, opened at 9.30 with the discussion of the prosecutor Silvia Mascia who reconstructed that August 18 a year ago : the former non-commissioned officer had been killed with seven stab wounds . The investigations immediately focused on the nephew , only his fingerprints were found in the house, then the turning point with the arrest of Giancarlo (known as Renato) who was the first to raise the alarm. Initially he had reported to the carabinieri that two criminals had entered the house, that there had been a scuffle that culminated in his uncle being stabbed .

A version that had not convinced the Carabinieri and had not even found evidence, then in the following hours Fonsatti had admitted the crime , also indicating the precise place (the pond of Santa Giusta) where he had thrown the large knife used to strike his uncle.

A precise motive never emerged, the prosecutor asked for a sentence of 15 years and six months. The defense with the lawyer Carlo Figus asked for the minimum penalty; in the end the judge Federica Fulgheri sentenced Fonsatti to 15 years and 10 months (6 months for carrying a knife).
