A 10-year-old girl from Tortolì, Anna Laura Pilia, died in an accident in the waters of the Port of Arbatax: she was the daughter of the historic head physician of the Radiology department of the Lanusei hospital and former president of the Province, Bruno Pilia.
According to an initial reconstruction, the little girl was taking a sailing lesson when the Optimist she was on capsized and she ended up in the water, drowning: she may have gotten caught in a rope that held her down.
The rescue was immediate: the little girl was taken unconscious to the platform, where the 118 rescuers tried for a long time to revive her. But unfortunately the attempts proved to be in vain: the maneuvers were interrupted and the death was declared.
On site were the 118 ambulances and the Echo Lima 1 helicopter from Olbia which landed on the eastern dock. Also in port were the agents of the Tortolì police station and the Carabinieri.
The investigation into the tragedy is being carried out by the Coast Guard.
