A general strike by AOU workers in Sassari. The strike, which will ensure essential services are maintained, will take place on May 29th of this year, across all shifts, and will involve medical management and department employees.
The strike was announced yesterday, following a meeting on Viale San Pietro, by the CGIL-CISL-UIL Civil Service and Physicians unions, the company RSU, and the Anaao, Assomed, Cimo, Fassid, Aaroi Emac, and FVM Smi unions. The strike stems from a series of critical issues that the unions now deem intolerable. These include the failure to pay performance bonuses for 2023 and 2024, the unilateral cancellation of overtime hours, delays in the delivery of meal vouchers required by current legislation, and the failure to activate institutions such as the Joint Commission for Organization and Innovation.
The unions also criticize, as they report in a statement, "the lack of concrete paths for permanent positions and new hires, which are essential to guaranteeing essential levels of care without continuing to burden staff with ever-increasing workloads." They also consider it serious that discussions with the Region, the AOU, and the Board of Auditors have proven, they write, "totally inconclusive." They leveled several accusations against the Region, and furthermore, they denounced concern over "the risk of a reduction in acute care beds in the area, which would further increase the healthcare pressure on the AOU of Sassari, already severely affected by overcrowding and staff shortages." This situation is unsustainable for the trade unions, who criticize: "Silence, postponements, or interim solutions are no longer acceptable."
