The new open space area of the Emergency Department of the Aou of Sassari was opened today.

The works completed in about a month made it possible to create a space dedicated to patients after the first stabilization operation . The new area makes it possible to streamline paths inside the emergency room, while improving the quality of care and patient safety and is functional to an overall reorganization of activities .

The open floor plan has nine patient stations, equipped with medical gas and monitoring systems . The area was created thanks to the rationalization of a series of rooms, partly used as support rooms, changing rooms and an X-ray room which is no longer in use. The intervention involved not only the construction of building works, such as the demolition and creation of walls, floors, false ceilings, fixtures, but also the complete overhaul of the electrical, air conditioning, voice/data, smoke detection, medical gas systems.

"The creation of the open space in the garrison of the Sassari university hospital and its entry into operation represent the first step in the direction we have traced - declares the regional health councilor, Carlo Doria - towards an overall reorganization and modernization emergency rooms in Sardinia, with the aim of offering citizens an efficient service in step with the times. Places where people can receive dignified assistance and not field hospitals in wartime where patients are forced to stand on stretchers in the corridors, in difficult working conditions for the operators themselves. Inside the open space, the patient is safer because they are constantly monitored and the technologies used also allow an optimization of resources and a more efficient organization».

«The works anticipate the wider restructuring and expansion intervention of the Emergency Department - says the general director of the Aou Antonio Lorenzo Spano - which foresees an investment of around 13 million, with regional funds and with funds from the Pnrr. The Company has already completed the general preliminary project and we are waiting for the definition of the file by the Ministry».

The project was carried out by the Technical Office of the Aou of Sassari, directed by Eng. Roberto Manca, while the works were carried out by the companies Electrical Service srl and Se.Sa. «We are about to change the organization of the Emergency Department - says the director of the structure Paolo Pinna Parpaglia - and we are about to move from an activity based on multifunctional clinics to one based on diversified treatment areas, which will see areas for red codes and yellow codes".
