A single diagnostic therapeutic assistance path (Pdta) for all Sardinians affected by amyotrophic lateral sclerosis . The 46-page document approved by the Giunta Solinas on the proposal of Carlo Doria defines the guidelines for the correct care of the patient and the governance of the continuity of care throughout the territory.

Currently, explains the regional councilor for health, there are about 300 people affected by ALS on the island: «Epidemiological studies in the Sardinian population record higher data than the national average, both for the incidence (on our territory the people affected from Sla every year are between 2.5 and 3.6 per 100 thousand inhabitants, against the national figure of 2.16 per 100 thousand inhabitants), both by prevalence (18 per 100 thousand inhabitants against a national figure between 6 and 8 per 100 thousand inhabitants ) ».

A pathology that is certainly not easy to manage, "both for the high level of assistance required by the regional health service and for the psychological impact on the sick person and his family".

"The Pdta - underlines Doria - represents an important result at the conclusion of an in-depth and accurate work carried out by the Regional Commission for ALS, with the participation of patient associations, capable of providing concrete indications to guarantee the taking charge of the person in all phases of life and evolution of the disease and to define operational methods of assistance and collaboration with the primary care teams".

Objective, " to guarantee a homogeneous model of assistance on the regional territory ".
