A woman's desperate screams prompted her neighbors to call 112. When the Carabinieri intervened in an apartment in the Sant'Agostino-Mercede neighborhood of Alghero , they found themselves faced with a situation that shocked the entire building.

According to initial reports, on Monday evening, a man in his 50s locked his wife inside their home, subjecting her to violence and humiliation . The woman was allegedly beaten and then forced to have her hair cut off by the man, who shaved her head in a particularly degrading act.

The alarm was raised by some residents who, hearing screams coming from the apartment , realized it wasn't a simple domestic dispute. Once the officers entered the home, they reconstructed the situation they deemed extremely serious.

The man was arrested and transferred to the Sassari-Bancali prison , while the woman and children were able to return home after receiving assistance. Among the charges being examined by investigators is torture, a crime covered by Article 613-bis of the Criminal Code, which can be charged in a family context when the violence and humiliation cause serious physical or psychological suffering.

The fifty-year-old, assisted by a public defender, will appear before a judge tomorrow for a validation hearing. Meanwhile, the Carabinieri and the Public Prosecutor's Office are continuing their investigation to determine any previous incidents of abuse . The investigation is being coordinated by Sassari Deputy Public Prosecutor Gianni Caria. News of the incident spread quickly through the neighborhood.
