During the night, unknown individuals set fire to the parking lot of a car rental company on provincial road 44, across the road from the Riviera del Corallo airport terminal.

The flames destroyed around fifty new cars , turning the area into a fiery inferno. Firefighters and police responded to the scene.

According to initial reports, there is no doubt about the arson nature of the fire : this is the second incident in just a few months to the detriment of the same car rental company, following the fire on March 14th.

"At 5 a.m. I heard a crackling sound and immediately a large flame burst forth," a witness recounted. "This is an exceptionally serious event that profoundly shakes the entire Alghero community," denounced Marco Tedde , Forza Italia national councilor. "We are no longer witnessing sporadic or marginal incidents," he continued, "but an escalation that risks compromising the climate of serenity and safety of our community and severely impacting the city's economic and productive fabric."

Forza Italia expresses solidarity with entrepreneur Stefano Ledda and the workers involved, but calls for an immediate response from all political parties. The vehicles are believed to belong to Galdieri Rent, a car rental company based in Salerno, and were parked in an outdoor area along the airport's provincial road.

These are practically new cars, ready to enter service with the start of the tourist season now upon us.
