Alghero and Catalonia are increasingly closer with projects for the diffusion of the language and sporting and environmental activities. The mayor of Alghero Raimondo Cacciotto met the delegate of the Catalan Government in Italy Luca Bellizzi.

In the Porta Terra headquarters, in the presence of the regional councilor Valdo Di Nolfo, the president of the municipal council Mimmo Pirisi, the councilors Enrico Daga and Francesco Marinaro, and Gustau Navarro, head of the Alghero Office of the Delegation, with also the representative to the culture of the Joan-Elies Adell delegation, the relationship between Catalonia and the city of Alghero was discussed, with a renewed desire to strengthen existing ties. «Unfortunately, fewer and fewer people speak our language, which is why we will activate initiatives that involve and make all those interested in practicing it participants and protagonists. Our idea is to start with the little ones, because only by transmitting to children the desire and the possibility of speaking and writing in Catalan - Alghero, can we keep the language alive and, consequently, our history and our traditions", said Mayor Cacciotto. We then discussed sport and the environment, with the desire to renew the iron pact between the Porto Conte Park and the Garraf Park.
The Catalan Government delegation underlined the importance of the creation of a "Mediterranean macro region", a topic still being defined at various institutional levels, which would naturally include Alghero and which will allow, in the near future, to start constructive discussions on the management of common problems and the implementation of shared solutions to address climate change and the effects resulting from it.
