A 'black' Wednesday for air travelers . A strike is scheduled from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM involving workers at Enav and Techno Sky , operating at the Rome and Sicily airports respectively, as well as staff at handling companies affiliated with Assohandlers, and staff at several airlines (ITA, Vueling, and Air France-KLM).
A list of operating flights is available on the ENAC website, in the "Flights guaranteed in the event of a strike" section.
Disruption is also occurring in Sardinia, with two flights already canceled at Alghero airport : the Rome Fiumicino-Alghero flight scheduled for 2:30 PM and the Alghero-Rome Fiumicino flight scheduled for 3:20 PM. And on the Cagliari-Milan flight, with boarding right on time at 1 PM, once on board, the captain announced that the Rome air traffic controllers' strike had begun. The result: the plane was grounded, waiting for someone who wasn't participating in the strike to take over.
As always , the protected time slots from 7:00 am to 10:00 am and from 8:00 am to 9:00 pm are in place, during which flights must still operate. "Detailed information on the operation of your flight," ENAC further specifies, "can be requested from the airline."
"The four-hour national strike of all ITA Airways staff, from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM, has been confirmed," the unions stated. "A meeting attended by over 800 workers, both in person and via livestream, confirmed the validity of the strike's demands. They emphasized that the national contract must be renewed, with wage increases and a better quality of life, a business plan with increased fleet investment, increased development, and the reintegration of staff still receiving social safety nets, the stabilization of fixed-term contracts, and finally, the proper payment of performance bonuses."
The Vueling cabin crew protested at the same time (from 1pm to 5pm).
