"While the Region continues to think about the new model of territorial continuity, however excluding trade union organizations and airport management companies from the debate, the limits of the current one can be found every day and contribute to increasing the many inefficiencies that Sardinians and tourists have to face on a daily basis ". William Zonca and Elisabetta Manca, general secretary and regional secretary of Uiltrasporti Sardinia write it, also underlining that "if it is true that it is absolutely necessary to study a new model of continuity, structured on the real needs of the island, with a greater frequency of flights and a ceiling on the fare for non-residents , it would be desirable for the Region to apply greater control towards the carriers which until October 2024 will be holders of the service in force".

The union recalls that in a few months almost all of the flights departing from the airports of Olbia and Alghero will be operated by a carrier «which to date still does not carry stretchers, oxygen therapy, X-rays and animals in the hold, as recently reported by a passenger unable to reach Olbia with her pet weighing more than 10 kilos. All services that have always been guaranteed by those who have won tenders for territorial continuity over the years and which the Region has rightly demanded also from those who, as a low-cost carrier, did not initially deliver them but who in a very short time took action to be able to do so".

In short, Uiltrasporti's request is that there be «the same firmness and the same respect as the provisions of the tender for all carriers and not just some. To this we add the fact that, starting next October, it will be impossible for those departing from Northern Sardinia to book a connecting flight and will be forced to buy two separate tickets with a consequent increase in costs and time to reach the final destination. The same thing, of course, for those who have to reach Northern Sardinia from cities other than Rome and Milan».

According to Zonca and Manca it is therefore "absolutely necessary to intervene right now so that all the services of territorial continuity are provided and to exclude the isolation of an entire part of the island with consequent decreases in passengers which will inevitably have repercussions on the airport system of Northern Sardinia".
