A 72-year-old woman from Cabras experienced moments of fear during the night between Friday and Saturday, after falling into the bed of the Rio Tanui, in an unfenced section not far from her home.
The alarm reached the fire brigade operations center around 4 a.m., when a neighbor heard the victim's screams and went out to see what was happening.
The pitch darkness and lack of lighting made it very difficult to locate the elderly woman, who was immersed in water up to her shoulders, clinging to some reeds, exhausted and unable to save herself.
After identifying her, the neighbor attempted to help her, but to no avail. However , the arrival of a 115 emergency team and a Carabinieri patrol was providential. They rescued the woman and handed her over to 118 personnel for transfer to the San Martino Hospital in Oristano.
The causes of the accident are currently uncertain : the elderly woman, exhausted and in a state of shock , has not been able to provide any explanations for what happened.
