Almost a year has passed since the death of Mariano Olla, a 16-year-old from Sestu who drowned in Cagliari off the beach near the former Sant'Elia stadium during an unauthorized alcohol- and drug-fueled party . A wall of silence has thwarted any attempt to reconstruct the facts and establish responsibility.
The Public Prosecutor's Office and the Juvenile Justice Department are working on the case, given that dozens of minors were involved. The case is open, alleging failure to provide assistance and death resulting from another crime . The young man allegedly went underwater during the party and became ill, but no one helped him . His body was found the next morning by some fishermen. The illness was caused by alcohol and synthetic drug abuse .
"I don't remember," "I didn't see," "I had already left." These were the answers given to the officers, even by those presumed to be friends of the victim. Thus, it seems that on that beach, where over 150 people were present, including many minors , Mariano disappeared without anyone noticing. Even finding the names and identikits of the drug dealers has so far been impossible.
In less than a month, prosecutor Diana Lecca will have to take stock and will find herself at a crossroads: either request an extension of the investigation to continue the investigation, or—if no reliable evidence or solid testimony emerges—ask the investigating judge to close the case.
