A vintage to frame in the Basso Sulcis for the extra virgin olive oil. This year, the olive harvest in the Sulcis Iglesiente area exceeded the all-time average by more than 30 percent.

In the area there are two oil mills in Santadi, one in Nuxis and one in Narcao.

They started working in the first days of October, in November they grinded non-stop day and night and there are those who will continue to keep them open until February because the product, all of the highest quality, is still arriving.

Vincenzo Porcina, owner of an olive grove covering approximately 20 hectares, explains that «a fundamental aspect was determined by the high temperatures of last summer and autumn which prevented the appearance of the olive fly. A good reason not to carry out phytosanitary treatments and to have an organic product. The super-intensive experimental plants have allowed a fully mechanized harvest which cuts production costs but above all allows the product to be processed within 2 hours of harvesting, which is essential for the production of extra virgin olive oil».
