After the plea bargain for the Clostebol case, the disqualification for Jannik Sinner has ended . He can thus return to the field "at home", at the Rome International. The appointment is for Friday 9 or Saturday 10 May, with the debut most likely in the evening and certainly on the Centre Court. The suggestion is that of a return to the field with an Italian derby: the draw held at the Trevi Fountain will pit the number 1 in the world against the winner between Federico Cinà (eighteen year old beneficiary of a wild card and n. 323 ATP) and the Argentine Mariano Navone, n. 99 but in 29th place a year ago.
The possible quarterfinal for Sinner could put him in front of the number 6 seed, Casper Ruud, or even Matteo Berrettini, if the Roman advances (in his debut he will have the American Korda). Then possible semifinals with Fritz or De Minaur, while only in the final could he face Zverev or Alcaraz, on the other side of the draw. The path is traced: Italy is rooting for Sinner to be there on May 18 in the final in Rome .
But Jannik will not be the only Italian aiming for the big goal, because among the first eight seeds there is also Lorenzo Musetti , officially in the top ten for the first time in his career from today . Like Sinner, he will take advantage of the bye in the first round to debut in the second against the Serbian winner Medjedovic (n. 72 ATP) and a qualifier. His possible quarterfinals, instead, could be against Zverev.
In the women's category, the Italian hopes are always on Jasmine Paolini who in Rome is the victim of the curse of the first round. She has never gone further if we talk about singles, while in doubles, together with Sara Errani, she is the holder of the title won in 2024. As the number 6 seed, she will start from the second round where she could have an Italian derby with Giulia Pedone if the Italian wins against Lulu Sun. The possible quarterfinal, instead, would be against the number 3 seed, Jessica Pegula. Paolini is then on the side of the draw of Iga Swiatek, three-time champion in Rome, who she could thus face in the semifinal.
