Italy's women's volleyball team wins gold at the Paris Olympics. The Italian women's team coached by Julio Velasco makes history.

Alessia Orro di Narbolia, Paola Egonu (22 points scored and an impenetrable wall) and their teammates defeated (demolished, in reality) the United States in the final in three sets.

The result is 25-18, 25-20 and 25-17: numbers that certify an absolute supremacy.

A match dominated, with grit on the field from the first serve.

But the path to victory was clear from the opening match: only one set lost in the entire tournament.

The gold medal for the Italian volleyball team is the twelfth of the Italian team in Paris. It is the 40th medal, as in Tokyo where, however, there were 10 gold medals.

Argentine coach Velasco was carried in triumph after the point by which the reigning American champions were beaten: a triumphal march to the tune of “Sarà perché ti amo”.

"This is very heavy, I told the girls, we have won many individual ones, but this is a team one. We just have to thank the girls. And then how they played". This is what Coni president Giovanni Malagò told Rai Sport.
