The meeting with a boy she met online and who convinced her to join him in his town, in Viadana, was fatal for Maria Campai, a 42-year-old woman, found dead in the garden of a villa after seven days of searching. This is the reconstruction that led the carabinieri to arrest, a few hours after the discovery of the woman's body, a 17-year-old boy who lives in the town, believed to be the presumed responsible for the murder. From what has been learned, the boy met the victim online by convincing her to meet him and having him come to her home, in the center of Viadana.
The two allegedly had an intimate encounter and then he, for reasons that have not yet been ascertained, killed her. According to an initial reconstruction of the incident, the boy, as hypothesized, violently hit the woman on the head, causing her very serious injuries . It is not clear whether he also tried to suffocate her to kill her. He then allegedly took the body and carried it, apparently by hand, to the ruins of an abandoned villa, in a place where he would hardly be noticed.
Maria Campai, 42, of Romanian nationality, was missing and since last Friday they had been looking for her also with molecular dogs. They had put up posters all over the country and her case had also come to the attention of the Rai program Chi l'ha visto.
Maria had disappeared into thin air in Viadana, a town in the Mantua area, where she had arrived on the evening of September 19th together with a friend from Parma. A job interview with a man, apparently contacted on the Internet, had been reported. From the following day the woman had given no news of herself. Her body was found by the Carabinieri late Thursday morning near the place where she had been accompanied and dropped off by her friend. Maria Campai went back and forth from Tuscany to Parma, where she had been living for some time with her sister, after leaving Tuscany where her ex-husband and two children live.
Last Thursday she had arrived in Viadana with a friend who had accompanied her by car for what appeared to be a job interview with a person. The friend told investigators that he did not know the person's identity but that he understood that it was a man. He left her in the center of Viadana with the agreement that she would be the one to call him to tell him to pick her up. Then silence. The next day, Friday 20 September, the alarm was raised. The sister thus contacted the police who immediately started the search. Yesterday the tragic discovery and the rapid investigations by the Carabinieri of the Investigative Unit of the provincial command of Mantua and the Viadana station led to the arrest of the 17-year-old. The victim's body was inspected by the coroner Antonello Cirnelli, whose job is also to verify whether the fatal injuries inflicted on the woman can be traced back to the boy.
