The Prosecutor has asked for the indictment of as many as 107 people including prison officers, prison administration officials and two doctors, for the violence of 6 April 2020 in the prison of Santa Maria Capua Vetere , in the province of Caserta.

In the images of the internal cameras acquired, the agents brutally beat the inmates of the Nile Department to take revenge for the protest triggered the day before for the positivity to Covid of a detainee. Among the crudest images are those of the prisoner in a wheelchair beaten with a truncheon, and of those passed through a corridor formed by agents who beat them with truncheons, kicks and punches.

"A horrible slaughter" defined it by the investigating judge Sergio Enea, who last June issued the precautionary custody orders for just under half of the suspects (52 measures of which eight in prison, 18 under house arrest, three residence obligations and 23 suspension from service). To date there are about twenty policemen subjected to the residence obligation, with very serious charges: torture, serious injuries, forgery, misdirection, manslaughter, death as a consequence of the crime of torture, namely that of the Algerian inmate Lakimi Hamine , initially classified as suicide. The man was beaten up and then locked up in a solitary confinement cell, without the possibility of treatment.

For this reason the deputy prosecutor Alessandro Milita, who took the floor after the replacements Alessandra Pinto and Daniela Pannone, asked the gup Pasquale D'Angelo to be sentenced to the Court of Assise of the Court of Santa Maria Capua Vetere, competent for the crimes more serious against the person. "Fallen into the void", on the other hand, the 32 plea bargaining proposals advanced by the Prosecutor's Office for the "more marginal" positions, to streamline the process and get to the hearing with fewer defendants; for now, no one has accepted, perhaps for fear that in the event of a negotiated sentence, dismissal could be triggered.

Many officers and officials accused are in fact still employees of the prison administration, although suspended. The decision of the gup Pasquale D'Angelo is expected in early June.

At the moment the constitutions of about 100 subjects have been admitted, including about ninety prisoners, 4 associations (Antigone, Carcere possible, Agadonlus, Abusi in uniform), institutions such as the national and regional guarantor of prisoners, the ASL of Caserta and the ministry of Grace and Justice; the latter two will appear among the civil parties and as civil liable in the event that the accused do not have to pay damages.
