A 33-year-old woman dies in her seventh month of pregnancy along with the baby she was carrying: an investigation has been launched. The tragedy unfolded in the space of a few hours, as reported by Il Mattino and Repubblica Napoli. Greta Astarita, a 33-year-old resident of Piano di Sorrento and mother of one, lost her life. She was seven months pregnant when she experienced excruciating groin pain, enough to prompt her family to take her to the San Leonardo Hospital in Castellammare di Stabia for a check-up on Friday. There, the doctors who examined her performed a series of tests before deeming her condition sufficient to not require hospitalization.

At this point , the 33-year-old reportedly returned home, but shortly thereafter, according to reports, the pain returned, so severe that Greta Astarita nearly lost consciousness. She was then rushed back to the San Leonardo hospital, where, however, the situation quickly deteriorated. According to the family members' accounts to the police station (where they filed a complaint and which is now handling the case), the doctors first reported the death of the baby she was carrying, and then, yesterday afternoon, after a dramatic admission to the intensive care unit of the Castellammare di Stabia hospital, the 33-year-old's death.

The investigation launched following the complaint will now clarify what actually happened and, above all, whether such a tragic outcome could have been avoided, given the patient's first admission to the same hospital.
