Usury against entrepreneurs in crisis due to the pandemic, five arrests

They would take advantage of the crisis situation faced by some entrepreneurs due to the pandemic to subject them to usury.

With the accusations of usury in competition, extortion and illegal exercise of financial activity, with the aggravating circumstance of the mafia method, five people were arrested by the carabinieri of the Compagnia di Sellia Marina, in the province of Catanzaro.

The investigation that led to the arrests was inspired by the complaint presented in February 2020 by one of the people subjected to usury, with economic problems caused by the first phase of the incidence of Covid.

The entrepreneur said he received a loan with a monthly interest rate equal to 13.75% of the financed amount. The victims, it was learned, carry out their activity mainly in the trade sector and live in Cropani, a center rich in economic activities in the province of Catanzaro.
