Tragedy averted in Ercolano , in the province of Naples, where a two-year-old boy suddenly taken ill was saved by two Carabinieri marshals who, after performing an initial life-saving maneuver, took him to the hospital in their car.

The incident occurred in the early afternoon yesterday when a female marshal, having finished her shift, was leaving the barracks of the via Resina station. The soldier heard screaming , with the voice coming from a pizzeria on the opposite sidewalk. There was a man there with his baby in his arms, who was struggling to breathe . The woman wasted no time and began to perform the Heimlich maneuver on the child, thinking that he had something obstructing his throat. Nothing. No signal.

In the meantime, someone alerted 118, but the ambulance was slow to arrive: while waiting for the rescuers to arrive, the woman then returned to the nearby barracks asking for help from a colleague of hers, another marshal, who was just starting to work. The two non-commissioned officers then decided to jump into the car, got the father and son on board and headed to the “Maresca” hospital in Torre del Greco, making their way through the cars in line along a route of a few kilometers.

At “Maresca” the child was examined and from there transferred by ambulance to the pediatric hospital “Santobono” in Naples: everything happened promptly and the little one was saved. The cause of the illness was probably an allergic reaction.

The family thanks the two marshals: "You are angels."
