Twenty-five Penitentiary Police officers, accused in various capacities and in complicity of torture, abuse of authority and ideological forgery, have been reached by precautionary and interdictory measures: 11 have ended up under house arrest and 14 have been suspended from public office. Search warrants have also been issued, for a total of 46 suspects.

The crimes in question were allegedly committed against inmates of the Pietro Cerulli prison in Trapani, with investigations starting in 2021.

The order of the GIP of Trapani, at the request of the Public Prosecutor's Office, was executed by the regional investigative unit of the penitentiary police of Palermo, with the assistance of some territorial departments coordinated by the central investigative unit.
