A huge seizure of cocaine - 285 kilos - was carried out by the carabinieri of the Gioia Tauro company (Reggio Calabria), supported by soldiers from the "Calabria" heliported Hunter Squadron, in a company in the Candidoni area.

During the operations, 266 bricks of cocaine were found inside and near a shed, hidden in bags containing pellet fuel.

A 40-year-old man was arrested. He gave investigators no explanation as to the origin of the narcotic.

Taking into account the quantity, the police believe that the analyzes that will be conducted will confirm the high purity of the cocaine. The investigators, in this regard, explain that considering an average retail price of around 80 euros per gram, an overall amount of almost 23 million euros is estimated for the seized narcotic, all without considering that the drug would certainly have been "cut" with other substances before being sold.

The arrested person was taken to the Palmi district house and made available to the judicial authorities. The seizure is among the most important ones carried out by the Carabinieri of the Gioia Tauro Group in recent years.
