6,732 brilliants and 2 thousand pearls, of different sizes, mounted on necklaces, earrings, diadems and various brooches.

It is the Savoy treasure, kept since June 1946, at the end of the monarchy, inside a casket closed in the vault of the Bank of Italy. And now the heirs of Umberto II, the last King of Italy, are claiming it.

Prince Vittorio Emanuele and princesses Maria Gabriella, Maria Pia and Maria Beatrice will sue the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Economy and the Bank of Italy for the return of the Crown Jewels.

The proxy was entrusted to the lawyer Sergio Orlandi: “Unlike the other assets, these have never been confiscated and have remained pending. Therefore they must be returned. ”The subpoena follows a mediation attempt, held today, which failed.

"Yesterday the Prime Minister had sent a first communication to the ADR center (seat of the mediation office, ed) claiming that they would not have attended the meeting scheduled today because, it is claimed, those jewels are not personal assets but supplied by the Kingdom of Italy. Only representatives of the Bank of Italy were present at the meeting ", explains the lawyer Sergio Orlandi, who today was accompanied by Prince Emanuele Filiberto, present as a delegate of his father Vittorio Emanuele and of aunts.
