"When the commander of the Gendarmerie Gianluca Gauzzi Broccoletti and the commissioner Stefano De Santis told me that the money used by Mrs. Marogna had not been spent for their own purposes, I said: ' I am ready to give what I have and refund the Secretariat of State, because if the money has been misused it is my fault '”.

Angelo Becciu said this today in the courtroom, during a spontaneous statement during the trial in the Vatican, adding that it was the commander who blocked him: " You are not at fault, you have been cheated ", he would have told him according to what the cardinal of Pattada. "I - he stressed - I procured the money, it was given to the lady because she was in charge of carrying out an operation of which the Holy Father and myself were aware".

The trial on the management of the funds of the Secretariat of State has reached the 28th hearing, Becciu in his spontaneous statements referred to what was explained in the courtroom by a witness for the prosecution, Commissioner De Santis , who spoke of a meeting he had with Becciu on October 3, 2020, a few days after the Pope deprived him of the rights of the cardinalate .

"We made him understand that Marogna had received a lot of money in which he was the sender of the transfers through Monsignor Perlasca and that the new substitute, Monsignor Pena Parra, knew nothing of this," De Santis reported about that meeting. “ Be careful, Cardinal Becciu, we told him, because this town is using the money differently from what was foreseen in the reason for the transfers which were for humanitarian missions ”.

Becciu, the commissioner continued, “asked us to protect Cecilia Marogna, not to do anything, because, he said 'it would cause serious damage to me and my family'. He asked us how much money Marogna had spent and said that he would give the order, through his personal account to the IOR, to return that money to the Secretariat of State ”. As for the contributions paid to Spes di Ozieri, a cooperative led by his brother Antonino, Becciu "thought he had done no harm" .

De Santis also reconstructed all the expenses of the Marogna: clothing, cosmetics, furniture, rent of the house in Cagliari, supermarket and perfumery, daughter's school and other items for a total of 436 thousand euros in 20 months of the 575 thousand received by the Vatican Secretariat of State . Again: stays in Ibiza, in Bormio, at the Terme di San Pellegrino, lunches in Sardinia and aperitifs in Milan.

And, with reference to the 125 thousand euros to Spes di Ozieri, De Santis stressed that the contribution was much greater than the others ordered by the Secretariat of State and the fact that the bill was not one of the eleven officers of the diocese of Ozieri or of Caritas, but a "mixed account that had nothing to do with the diocese" .
