«You have always been the strongest and bravest sister. I will miss you every day, every moment, every night."

These are the words of the brother of Saman Abbas, the 18-year-old Pakistani girl killed in the Lower Reggio Emilia area between 30 April and 1 May 2021, and which will be written on a stele placed next to the tomb of the eighteen-year-old in the Novellara cemetery. On the tombstone created by the Municipality, simply "Saman Abbas" will be written with the dates of birth (18/12/2002) and death (1/05/2021).

Abbas was buried today in the direction of Mecca, in a private ceremony. During the funeral with the Islamic rite presided over by Yassine Lafram, president of the Ucoii, the Union of Islamic Communities of Italy, there were about fifteen people present, including the 18-year-old's brother. «He was unable to express himself - Lafram explained to journalists - as we all know he is still very distressed, he is experiencing difficulty in processing this mourning. His silence is very significant and must be absolutely respected."

For the death of Saman, who was allegedly killed because she opposed a forced marriage, her father Shabbar, extradited from Pakistan, and her mother Nazia Shaheen, still at large, were sentenced to life imprisonment. The girl's uncle, Danish Hasnain, was sentenced to 14 years in prison.
