The front door of the home of the MEP of the Brothers of Italy, Francesco Ventola, in Canosa di Puglia, in the north of Bari, was set on fire last night.
The politician and his family were at home. No injuries were reported.
The flames, which broke out around three o'clock, were apparently caused by the throwing of a Molotov cocktail . The fire brigade intervened on the spot. The police are investigating.
Ventola was also mayor of Canosa, president of the Province of Barletta-Andria-Trani. And until last June he was the group leader of FdI in the Regional Council of Puglia.
"I am happy that my family is okay. It was not an easy night and the fear remains. I do not want to speculate, I trust in the investigative and investigating activity that will be able to identify those responsible. I thank all those who in these hours are showing me their closeness", Ventola commented.
Yesterday morning he was present at the ceremony in Bari during which Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Minister Raffaele Fitto signed the Cohesion Agreement with Governor Michele Emiliano that released 6.5 billion for investments in Puglia.
The Trani Public Prosecutor's Office has opened an investigation, the crime hypothesis is damage following a fire. At the moment, proceedings are being conducted against unknown persons. The investigations are ongoing and have been entrusted to the police who have carried out the surveys. This is the third episode of the same type recorded in the city in recent weeks. Before the politician, the doors of the homes of a bank manager and a manager of the Municipality of Canosa were set on fire.
