The autopsy will establish the causes of death, and above all trace when it occurred, of a 65-year-old woman whose body was found in an advanced state of decomposition in the house where she lived with her husband, in Casale Litta, in the province of Varese.
Some family members were unable to contact her and alerted the police. The soldiers rang the doorbell and the husband, about ten years older than his wife, answered the door in a state of confusion. For months, it turned out, he had been watching over the 65-year-old's body, keeping it on the bed, under the covers.
From the first investigations, the woman had been ill for some time and would have died of natural causes.
