The newborn did not make it, who in the first days of February, thrown from the pram, ended up on the platforms at the Pavia station. The little boy was hospitalized in Neonatal Pathology at the San Matteo Polyclinic in very serious conditions and had suffered various bruises, a head injury and a fractured limb.

An autopsy will be performed on the body at the Institute of Forensic Medicine of the University of Pavia, while the Public Prosecutor has opened an investigation into what happened.

The baby had been taken by his father to the hospital for a check-up two weeks after birth and, while the man was on the phone on the platform, a freight train headed for Genoa. Perhaps the pram was hooked up from a wagon or was sucked into a blast: the baby was thrown onto the tracks. The convoy did not run over him but in the fall the consequent injuries proved fatal.

The parent is under investigation for manslaughter and neglect of a minor, but investigations are underway by the railway police to establish the speed of the freight train when it passes through the station.
