Seventeen years have passed since the death of inspector Filippo Raciti , killed on 2 February 2007 outside the Massimino stadium in Catania during the riots between the Catania and Palermo ultras.
And now the SAP, the autonomous police union, is launching an appeal to establish - in his memory - a day against violence in stadiums . With this in mind, several Sardinian parliamentarians were contacted to become promoters of the proposal: «Since 2007», explains the secretary of the Sap of Cagliari Luca Agati, «the year in which this tragic and unfortunate event occurred, slow but long journeys that have made it possible to make a real change to fans in stadiums. Think, for example, of the Daspo instrument, the institution of stewards or the possibility of deferred arrest, as well as the establishment of a National Committee for public order and safety. All this has also allowed families to return to the stadium and experience moments of sport with positivity."
Nonetheless, Agati underlines how episodes of violence are slowly returning to the stadiums and outside the stadiums: «For this reason it is important that the guard is not lowered», he highlights, « to avoid a return of unacceptable episodes of violence . Sport must unite and not divide."
Here the request of the day fits into this climate: «So that it can be a moment for everyone to pay attention to this important phenomenon and to enhance the values of sport».
