Saman: life sentence for parents, 14 years for uncle, cousins acquitted

First degree sentences at the trial for the death of Saman Abbas , the 18-year-old of Pakistani origin killed in 2021 in Novellara, in the Reggio Emilia area.

After almost five hours of deliberation, the judges of the Assize Court of Reggio Emilia sentenced the father Shabbar Abbas and the mother Nazia Shaheen to life imprisonment.

Fourteen years were instead inflicted on his uncle, Danish Hasnain.

Cousins Ikram Ijaz and Nomanhulaq were acquitted and their immediate release was ordered.

Before the sentence, the young woman's father had made spontaneous statements , stating: «Never in my life have I thought about killing my daughter. Even animals don't do these things. Gentlemen judges, I have never thought these things."
