The Senate Chamber has denied the request for authorization to proceed against Matteo Salvini for the opinions expressed on Carola Rackete, at the time of the events commander of the Sea Watch 3, the ship of the German NGO engaged in the rescue of 53 migrants in the area Libyan SAR on June 12, 2019.
The vote (82 yes, 60 no, 5 abstentions) accepts the report of the Immunity Board of 28 February 2023, which considers the words covered by unquestionability.
The Giunta expressed its opinion on the documents of the Milan court which sees Salvini accused of aggravated defamation. The Democratic Party, the 5 Star Movement and Avs voted against the authorization to proceed. Italia Viva abstained, while the centre-right majority voted in favour.
