A vast fire in the east of Rome is engaging over one hundred firefighters and 50 vehicles of 115, assisted by carabinieri, police and municipal agents.

The fire broke out in the park of Centocelle and in an area where there are several car wreckers , along viale Palmiro Togliatti, at the height of via Casilina, and then extended to the Torrespaccata area.

The strong wind, which also contributed to spread the black smoke, also visible from the center of the capital and from the surrounding municipalities, including Ostia, fueled the flames.

Many citizens report on social media that they have heard of the "explosions", while the authorities have invited citizens to keep their windows closed and to use masks even on the street .

"The fires that have hit the city in recent days are an impressive sequence of episodes that are putting a strain on Rome and the Romans", the mayor of the capital, Roberto Gualtieri , wrote on Facebook. "We are constantly monitoring the situation and we do not know even if they are episodes of criminal origin or just culpable . This is not the time for political speculation and divisions. It is the time for unity, proximity to the Romans affected, and the determination not to be intimidated and to move forward road to modernization and the revival of Rome ", added the mayor.
