"Do you also want to be a face of the Republic? Just a few seconds of video with you in the foreground and complete, with your thoughts, what the Republic means to you. What it represents and has represented," reads the note with which the Quirinale launches the initiative.

The dedicated website – www.ivoltidellarepubblica.quirinale.it – is online, and some have already decided to participate by making a short video on their cell phones, in which they explain what the Republic represents eighty years after the referendum of June 2, 1946. The anniversary cannot fail to also be, especially for the new generations, a moment of reflection on the meaning of the republican choice and on the recent history of our country.

"Everyone can participate by contributing to the creation of a living archive of women and men, of all ages and regions, who daily make up the faces and voices of the Republic," continues the invitation.

More than one hundred videos have already been submitted by citizens and published on the Quirinale website, featuring several well-known faces, from Claudio Bisio to Checco Zalone, and tennis player Jasmine Paolini.

"For me, the Republic," says Claudio (Bisio) from Milan, "is the public thing, that is, it's all of us. Article 1 of the Constitution states that the Italian Republic is founded on work, also understood as the effort to build the Republic. So, in my opinion, we are the ones who build the Republic with our work, day by day." Bisio's words are echoed by those of Zalone. "For me, the Republic is freedom," says Checco from Bari, "and when you're free, you feel like a king." For tennis champion Jasmine from Bagni di Lucca, the Republic means remaining "united as a team, with commitment and dedication."

Among the hundred were many young people and children. "For me, the Republic means everyone being equal and having the same rights," explains little Bianca from Cosenza. "For me, the Republic means being loved," says Samuele from Brussels.
