There's been a storm over Giusi Bartolozzi, Minister Nordio's chief of staff, who stated on TV: "Vote yes and we'll get rid of the judiciary, which is like firing squads."
The controversy immediately erupted with the Democratic Party, which denounced the incident on social media with a post that read: "They admitted it bluntly: their goal is to get rid of the judiciary."
Nordio himself also addressed Bartolozzi's remarks: "I regret the words used by my chief of staff. Even though they were uttered in the context of a long and heated televised debate, that statement appeared to be an attack on the entire judiciary."
"My chief of staff," the Minister of Justice added, "has made it clear that he was referring to a small number of politicized judges, and he will certainly have no difficulty apologizing for words that I am certain do not reflect his views or the respect he has for the judiciary, of which, among other things, he himself is a member."
Bartolozzi himself explained that his statements concerned "only a small part, unfortunately the mainstream one, of the judiciary that governs the system."
