"The process is going very well, the doctors are happy . The treatments in Valencia, including chemo and medication, have had their effect. Now I have a new round of chemo here at Sant'Orsola where I'm hospitalized, and then on September 24th, the bone marrow transplant ." "I want to invite everyone to donate. There's a need for many donors. By making your contribution, you can save many lives and help many people overcome difficult times. That's why I want to make an appeal: join ADMO, the Bone Marrow Donors Association. Half a day of your life can help many people live and heal."

This is the appeal, contained in an interview with the Quotidiano Nazionale, by Achille Polonara , a basketball champion who is preparing for a bone marrow transplant to fight the myeloid leukemia that struck him in June.

"I think a little fear is normal. On the other hand," she explains, " I can't wait to get started, facing this difficult moment head-on, with the desire to get it out of my sight: the sooner we start, the sooner we'll finish."

Polonara explains that he's aware of the delicate nature of the situation but says he's "calm and optimistic. I want to approach this moment with this spirit."
