The prosecutor has closed the investigation into the Open foundation, the "safe" that according to the prosecutors would have financed the political rise of Matteo Renzi.

Notice of conclusion of investigations delivered to eleven suspects and four companies.

Among the suspects are Matteo Renzi, Luca Lotti and Maria Elena Boschi, in addition to the former president of Open Alberto Bianchi and the member of the board of directors of the Marco Carrai foundation, an entrepreneur close to the former premier.

According to the accusation Renzi, Lotti and Boschi through the Foundation would have received between 2014 and 2018, in violation of the legislation on party financing, over 3.5 million euros for their political activity and for the Renzian current of the Democratic Party.

Among the crimes alleged in various capacities are illegal financing of parties, corruption, money laundering, trafficking of influences.

Meanwhile, for the third time the Florence Review Court confirmed the seizure of Marco Carrai's documents, carried out in November 2019.

Renzi has always defended himself by saying that Open is a foundation and therefore there can be no illegal financing: "It cannot be the prosecutors who decide what a party is and what a foundation is", is his defensive line. The leader of Italia Viva has also repeatedly attacked the Florentine prosecutors, asking, among other things, to move the investigation to Rome.
