28 people have been arrested by the postal police as part of an operation against child pornography . The blitz , which also touched Sardinia , was directed by the Public Prosecutor's Office of Venice through the National Center for the fight against online child pornography (Cncpo), and involved around 200 agents.

51 search warrants were carried out.

The arrests - which took place in the provinces of Cagliari, Bergamo, Milan, Pisa, Rimini, Bologna, Ferrara, Naples, Pavia, Perugia, Rome, Sondrio, Venice, Pesaro, Ravenna, Turin, Varese, Cremona, Messina, Palermo and Savona - were all validated and 19 precautionary measures were implemented. The suspects are between 16 and 73 years old.

On the island, a 25-year-old resident in a center in southern Sardinia ended up in handcuffs. His home was searched and IT equipment, computers and data storage equipment containing photos and videos of child abuse were found and seized. The young man was arrested for possession of a large quantity of child pornography.

For over 6 months , undercover police officers on a messaging platform monitored around 130 virtual spaces , within which there were users from all over the world who exchanged thousands of photos and videos of child abuse. The Venetian "undercovers" requested and obtained 59 personal and computer search decrees against as many Italian users, belonging to the international "community" of pedophiles. Hundreds of other foreign users, both European and non-European, were reported by the CNCPO to the States concerned through international police cooperation channels.

During the searches, numerous IT devices were seized with tens of thousands of child pornography files, which will be subject to further analysis to identify any other users.
