High school teacher refuses to give cigarette to young man; stabbed in street

A high school teacher was stabbed in the back on the street by a young man in Bassano del Grappa, in the province of Vicenza , after the man refused to offer him a cigarette.

The 62-year-old professor is now in the operating room for a delicate surgical procedure . The knife blade was lodged in his spine , stopping just millimeters from the aorta and spinal cord.

The search for the attacker is underway.
