A three-month-old baby testing positive for cocaine and suffering from meningitis is hospitalized in very serious conditions in the Santobono hospital in Naples.
The terrible discovery was made by the doctors of the Pediatrics department of the Ruggi hospital in Salerno, where the child had arrived with a high fever and in a state of torpor, with symptoms of septicemia. The doctors found meningitis and managed to stabilize him, then arranging for him to be transferred by air ambulance to Santobono.
Urinalysis revealed that the child was positive for cocaine. As far as we know, the mother takes cocaine, so it is likely that transmission could have occurred through breastfeeding.
At Santobono, however, further analysis also revealed that the little boy is suffering from an important form of meningitis.
The case has been reported to the Police, who are working to reconstruct what happened.
