The Naples Public Prosecutor's Office has registered entrepreneur Maria Rosaria Boccia as a suspect in an investigation aimed at shedding light on her degree in Economics. Il Mattino and Repubblica reported.
The crimes hypothesized by the investigators are forgery, fraud and false attribution of other people's values . The financiers of the economic-financial police unit of Naples have carried out documentary acquisitions at the Parthenope, Pegaso and Luiss Guido Carli universities. The investigations aim to verify what was reported by Pegaso itself in a complaint presented to the Naples investigating office following an internal audit; the complaint concerns Boccia's plagiarism of a thesis presented by a Luiss student entitled "The National Health System: lights and shadows of an Italian excellence constrained by the constraints of public finance".
When enrolling at Pegaso (in 2020) Boccia would also have presented an unsigned self-certification having some exams previously taken at Parthenope recognized. The self-certification would have been acquired at the time by Pegaso without any verification at Parthenope regarding the actual taking of the exams.
Maria Rosaria Boccia graduated from Pegaso in Economics and Management with a score of 91/110. Pegaso's internal investigations began after a report aired on September 9, 2024 on "Rete 4", in which doubts were raised about the authenticity of Boccia's thesis, whose work was allegedly compared using anti-plagiarism software with that of a student who graduated from Luiss in 2019.
