Suffering from a serious illness, he hadn't answered his cell phone for days and when the family received the communication of his death the news was dramatic but it didn't arouse particular amazement, just great pain. Arranged the funeral, it was later discovered that the man was actually alive .

The story starts from Sannicola, in the province of Lecce. The 64-year-old takes the bus to Milan: after various diagnoses, he decides to contact the Lombard health care. It's December 19th. The next day he sends a text, says everything is fine.

Since then, no contact. But the man, it was later reconstructed, was hospitalized on December 22nd: he is alone, he does not have a cell phone with him. As per protocol, the form for searching for relatives is completed and sent to the Police Headquarters.

At that point, however, the error is lurking: the Municipality of Sannicola receives a pec from a Milanese police station which mentions "death" and asks to verify the presence on the territory of the "relatives of the deceased" for the purpose of recognizing the body. The communication reaches the family on January 5th.

Contacts are made with the funeral home, the funeral is organized and preparations are made to go to Milan. Only on January 9 did the clarification arrive: the 64-year-old is alive and well , and is still hospitalized. Immediate apologies from the Police Headquarters, but the story arouses much controversy.
