Tragedy in San Vito di Negrar, in Valpolicella, in the Verona area.

A 13-year-old boy died after being hit by a pirated car, which fled after causing the accident.

Around midnight, the teenager was walking on the road when he was hit by the car, which then restarted at full throttle. Transported in very serious conditions to Verona to the Borgo Trento hospital, he died a few hours later. In the afternoon, the investor was identified: he is a 39-year-old worker from Verona. The carabinieri reached him thanks to the municipal video surveillance system and the wreckage of the car found on the asphalt.

The victim's name was Chris Obeng, he dreamed of being a footballer in a big team and would have turned 14 next September. A member of the FIGC, he played in one of the youth teams of Negrar, which participates in the third category championship with the senior team.

According to the doctors of the intensive and emergency care of the University Hospital of Verona, who welcomed the young victim last night, "he could have been saved if he had been rescued" after the accident. In fact, for the health professionals, the injuries sustained by the boy would not be "compatible with death", instead caused by "cardiac arrest due to crushing hypoxia". Before being noticed by a passerby, Chris was down for a period of time that could have been fatal.

The parents - the father is a worker in a metalworking company - have been in Italy for about twenty years. Chris had a brother and sister who were also born in Italy.
