Family tragedy in the Varese area.

Last night a 40-year-old man, Davide Paitone, killed his seven-year-old son Daniele in his home in Morazzone.

He hit him with a slash in the throat that left him no way out, then hid the child's body in the closet of the house.

Then he took the car and headed to Gazzada Schianno, also in the Varese area, where he attempted to kill his ex-wife who was a guest at his parents' house using the same weapon. He only wounded her, not seriously, and then fled.

The man, a 40-year-old convicted of house arrest for stabbing a colleague, was tracked down at dawn this morning by the carabinieri. He had got the chance to spend New Year's Eve with his son, who was supposed to go back to his mother tonight. The two were in the process of separating.

Paitone was in his home, the military arrested him and then discovered the lifeless body of the child inside the wardrobe: it was the woman's parents who warned the soldiers of the presence of their grandson at the 40-year-old's home.
