The record commuter is 29 years old, she is a janitor from Naples and her name is Giuseppina Giuliano .
He found work in Milan and every day, from Monday to Saturday, he travels 1,600 kilometers round trip to work .
The young woman works at the Boccioni art school in piazzale Arduino: Milan is too expensive for her salary and she considers it more advantageous to stay and live with her parents in Naples.
The alarm goes off at 3.30 in the middle of the night. At 5.09 he took the Italo towards Milan, a journey of 4 and a half hours during which he had breakfast and rested. He arrives in Milan at 9.24, takes the trolleybus and arrives at the school, where he starts work at 10.30. At 17 the working day ends and the return journey begins: " But first I'm going to the supermarket to buy something for dinner, which I eat on the train ."
The return journey begins at 18.20, arriving in Naples Central at 22.53. Home at 11.30pm, 20 hours after waking up . All perfectly timed, net of unexpected events. Everything repeats itself the same every day from Monday to Saturday.
A lot of effort, a life that many would not bear, but Giuseppina did the math.
« My salary is 1,165 euros a month, in Milan a shared room costs at least 650 euros to which I would still have to add survival costs. Instead, the trains cost me about 400 euros a month ». It's better to stay and live with mum and dad, with grandma and the dogs: «This allows me not to have any further expenses other than those of the train and for this I consider myself very lucky. By booking well in advance and collecting loyalty points, I can get many discounts and so I also put something aside every month».
As for Milan: «I tried, I asked the pensioners, but they told me they only accept students under 25. I asked the youth hostel, but they no longer host people for long periods and therefore the cost is higher».
But she doesn't want to give up her job: « Just now that I've become tenured, I absolutely cannot miss the opportunity of this job . So, until I find something suitable for my possibilities, I will go on like this ».
