Gabriele Marchesi will not be handed over to Hungary at the moment and will remain under house arrest in Italy until at least May. This was decided today by the Milan Court of Appeal in the proceedings on the 23-year-old co-suspect of Ilaria Salis and also accused of attacking far-right militants in Budapest a year ago.

The Milanese Court decided to ask Hungary for further information on alternative precautionary measures and postponed the proceedings until May 18th.

The young man is under house arrest in Milan following a European arrest warrant for the events of February 2023.

The Court, presided over by Monica Fagnoni, with today's order «requests» the Ministry of Justice of Hungary «to establish whether other instruments of judicial cooperation are applicable (...) other than the European Arrest Warrant to guarantee the 'exercise of criminal action with the investigative measures necessary for this purpose'.

Therefore the same Court ordered to keep Marchesi under house arrest until May 18th, as the deadline, reserving the right to decide later on the request for the young man's surrender by the Hungarian authorities.
