The fraudulent mode has been around for a couple of years now but, on a regular basis, it is making a comeback. In many Italian cities, at the entrances to condominiums, leaflets have reappeared, which at first glance appear to be printed on the headed paper of the "Ministry of the Interior, Department of Public Safety", inviting "non-residents" to leave their homes for police checks.

The Police, raising the alarm, published the false document asking citizens to inform as many people as possible, so that no one falls for the scam.

"In the last few days - it is explained - there have been many reports from all over Italy to the Police about a flyer, posted on the facades of some houses and condominiums on which citizens are warned to return to their usual places of residence. It is evidently a scam not to be indulged".

The document "cannot be traced back to any institutional authority" continues the Department, and is a "probable attempt by some criminals to break into homes undisturbed".

Anyone who comes across similar leaflets, is the request of the Police, "is requested to go to the nearest Police office or to the Carabinieri station to report the incident. It is advisable to speak about it to the elderly present in the family or neighbors so as to warn them and help them defend themselves against these criminals”.
