Ignazio La Russa confirms that he will meet the parents of the family in the woods at the Senate, but he will do so after the referendum and not during the referendum campaign .

"I'm giving and confirming the news now: I will meet with the parents of the unfortunate children involved in the forest incident next Wednesday, with all due respect to any unnecessary controversy ," said the President of the Senate in a video, who invited Nathan Trevallion and Catherine Birmingham to Palazzo Madama.

"I was very amused to read a controversy over a non-news item," La Russa quipped. "Several left-wing figures, some well-known, some unknown to me, decided to start a controversy based on a story in the newspaper 'Il Centro' that featured a somewhat prominent report that I would be meeting on Wednesday, without specifying the date, with the parents of the unfortunate children of the so-called 'forest family' that's all over the papers. It's true that I expressed my solidarity with the family, and it's true that I've always been very moderate on this issue. It's true that I will see them, but not this Wednesday, because as everyone knows, there's no referendum on Wednesday , I won't be in Rome, and like everyone else, I'm waiting for the referendum date, partly to campaign."

"But what really surprised me," La Russa concludes, "is the acrimony over a possible visit, almost as if the President of the Senate had to apologize or even ask permission from their superiors to meet privately with whomever he chooses. They should get over it."
